The group started its operations in 2009. It brings together about fifty members from different fields (research, environmental management, public institutions, local authorities, associations, etc.). It is an interface for communication and discussion on the management of invasive alien species in freshwater aquatic environements.
The French national agency for water and aquatic environments (Onema) finances the operations. Coordination and organization are provided by the Onema and the French committee of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
